CJA Panel Applications

The Court of Appeals for the First Circuit is accepting applications to serve on the court's Criminal Justice Act ("CJA") Panel including: (1) applications from attorneys not currently on the panel; and (2) reapplications from panel members whose terms expire on October 1, 2013. To be considered for membership, an attorney must be a member of the bar of the Court in good standing; have a demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, federal criminal law and appellate procedure; have a commitment to indigent criminal defense; and be willing to accept at least one CJA appellate appointment each year.

Attorneys not currently on the panel should complete the "Questionnaire and Application for Membership on the First Circuit Criminal Justice Act ("CJA") Panel" and submit the attachments identified in the form. Panel members who are reapplying should complete the "Reapplication for Membership on the First Circuit Criminal Justice Act ("CJA") Panel" and submit the attachments identified in the form. The forms may also be obtained from the Clerk of Court.

Completed applications and attachments should be mailed to the Clerk and must be received no later than June 10, 2013 at 5 p.m. Applications will be reviewed by the CJA Panel Advisory Committee, which will make recommendations to the court. Applicants will be notified in the early fall. Appointments and reappointments will be for a four-year term. Attorneys whose terms do not expire on October 1, 2013 should not reapply at this time; rather, they will be given an opportunity to reapply closer to the expiration date of their term. Attorneys who want to confirm when their term expires can consult the attached panel list and if questions arise should contact Jessica Pace at (617) 748-9380.
