BOSTON (October 7, 2015)—Chief Judge Jeffrey R. Howard of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit announced today that the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire will relocate from rented space in Manchester to existing space in the Warren B. Rudman Courthouse in Concord, where the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire is located.  It is anticipated that the Bankruptcy Court will relocate operations to the Rudman Courthouse in summer 2017. 
 
The relocation is part of the Circuit's response to the Judicial Conference of the United States' (JCUS) space reduction initiative, which mandates that the federal Judiciary reduce its space footprint by 3% by the end of September 2018. 
 
Chief Judge Howard stated that after careful consideration "the Circuit Judicial Council determined that moving the Bankruptcy Court from rented space in Manchester to existing Judiciary space in the Rudman Courthouse allows the Circuit to achieve considerable cost savings without sacrificing staffing levels or mission-critical services."  
 
The Bankruptcy and District Courts will both be located in the Rudman Courthouse, but they will operate independently, with independent clerks' offices. 
 
Chief Judge Howard explained that the Circuit Council, Chief Judge Laplante of the District of New Hampshire and Chief Judge Harwood of the New Hampshire Bankruptcy Court, support this difficult, but necessary choice.  "The Courts are dedicated to ensuring the move is accomplished with minimal disruption to operations."
