  • Federal Criminal Appellate Practice Writing Seminar
    • The Court of Appeals for the First Circuit is sponsoring a one-day writing seminar on May 16th at the Portland Regency Hotel in Portland, Maine for both experienced brief writers and less seasoned criminal appellate practitioners. There is no charge to attend this seminar.

    • Professor Timothy P. Terrell, co-author of "Thinking Like a Writer: A Lawyer’s Guide to Effective Writing and Editing," will address how to write a brief that is clear and persuasive. Experienced criminal appellate practitioners from the public and private sectors will add their own tips on brief writing and will also address major developments in First Circuit and United State Supreme Court law.


    • The seminar materials have been submitted to the CLE organizations in Puerto Rico, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island for CLE-accreditation. Attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance. This seminar has been approved for the following CLE credits:

        Puerto Rico - 5.75 credits/0 ethics credit
        Maine - 5.75 credits/0 ethics credit
        New Hampshire - 5.75 credits/0 ethics credit
        Rhode Island - 6.5 credits/0 ethics credit

    • This writing seminar was conducted in San Juan, Puerto Rico on November 9, 2007, and in Boston on April 25, 2008.
