I.  `    ` OnMarch9,2000,MurrayenteredthelobbyoftheMargaretChaseSmithFederalBuildinginBangor,Maine,carryingablackpowderpistolinaholsteronhisbelt.MurrayhadbeenafrequentvisitoratthebuildingforthepasteightyearsandhadoccasionallybroughtaLeathermanknifewithhimonthesevisits.Hehadbeenallowedtochecktheknifewiththesecuritypersonnelstationedatthexraymachineandmetaldetector.Onthisoccasion,Murrayadvancedtothemetaldetector,whichwasapproximatelysixfeetfromtheentrancetothebuilding,pastasetofslidingdoors,avestibuleandanothersetofdoors,andindicatedthathewantedtocheckthepistolwiththearmedofficersonduty.Hewasinformedthatcivilianscouldnotcheckgunsandthathewouldhavetoleavethebuilding.Murraydidnotleavebutinsteadbecameirate.Intheconfrontationthatensued,Murrayatonepointputhishandonhisweaponanddidnotcomplywithrepeatedinstructionstoturnthepistolovertotheofficers.Finally,afteroneoftheofficersmanagedtoremovethepistol, Murraywasrestrainedandarrested. * &0  ` Subsequently,M%  MMurraywaschargedwithforcibly assaulting,resisting,opposing,impeding,intimidatingandinterferingwithofficersandemployeesoftheUnitedStatesinviolationof18U.S.C.111(a)(1)(CountI)andwithpossessingorcausingtobepresentadangerousweaponinaFederalfacilityinviolationof18U.S.C.930(a)(CountII).WithrespecttoCountII,thedefendantmovedforjudgmentofacquittalatthecloseofthegovernment'scaseandagainbeforeclosingarguments.Fed.R.Crim.P.29(a).Thecourtdeniedthemotioninbothinstances.OnAugust24,2000,thejuryreturnedaverdictofnotguiltyonCountI,butfoundMurrayguiltyastoCountII.OnNovember22,2000,Murraywassentencedtoimprisonmentforatermofthreemonths.MurraynowappealsthedenialofthemotionforjudgmentofacquittalonCountII.  II.      ` Murraywasconvictedofviolating18U.S.C.930(a),whichreadsasfollows:"[W]hoeverknowinglypossessesorcausestobepresentafirearmorotherdangerousweaponinaFederalfacility...orattemptstodoso,shallbefinedunderthistitleorimprisonednotmorethan1year,orboth."NPPPPNNN #  1      ׀Theparties "& stipulatedthattheMargaretChaseSmithFederalBuildingisa"federalfacility"withinthemeaningofthestatute,see18U.S.C. % !* 930(g)(1),andtherewasnoquestionattrial(andhasbeenno `'", questiononappeal)thatthepistolMurraycarriedintothebuilding,althoughold,wasa"dangerousweapon"withinthemeaningofthestatute,see18U.S.C.930(g)(2).    ` However,inhismotionforjudgmentofacquittalMurrayargued,andcontinuestoargueonappeal,thatsection930prohibitsonlyknowingviolationsofthestatuteandthathecould    notreasonablyhaveknownthatpossessingapistolinthepubliclobby,beforepassingthroughthemetaldetector,violatedtheprohibitionondangerousweaponsinthebuilding.Murray'sargumentisessentiallythathemistakenlybelievedthattheprohibitionappliedonlypastthemetaldetectorandxraymachines,thepointatwhichheexpectedtobeabletocheckthepistol,andthatnojurycouldhavereasonablyconcludedthathethusknowinglyviolatedthestatute. ` Insupportofthepositionthatsection930onlyprohibitsknowingviolationsofthestatute,Murraypointsoutthatthestatutefurtherrequiresthat"[n]oticeoftheprovisionsofsubsection[](a)...shallbepostedconspicuouslyateachpublicentrancetoeachFederalfacility"andthat"nopersonshallbeconvictedofanoffenseundersubsection(a)...ifsuchnoticeisnotsopostedatsuchfacility,unlesssuchpersonhadactualnoticeofsubsection(a)...."18U.S.C.930(h).MurraycontendsthatthefactthathehadonpreviousoccasionsbeenallowedtocheckhisknifeatthemetaldetectorandproceedintothebuildingledhimreasonablyItoIbelievethatthesamepolicywouldapplytothepistol.Hearguesthat,althoughnoticesofthe +'2 prohibitionwerepostedintheMargaretChaseSmithFederalBuilding,theywerepostedinwaysthatreinforcedthelobby'sstatusasa"neutralzone,"becausetherewerenosignsoutsidethebuildingandthemoreeyecatchingsignswerepostedpastthelobby.Finally,hepointsoutthat,hadhesimplyleftthebuildingafterhavingbeentoldthathewasnotallowedtocheckthepistol,hewouldnothavebeenchargedwithviolatingthestatute;therefore,hecontends,itfollowsthatpossessingadangerousweaponinthelobbyoftheMargaretChaseSmithFederalBuildingisnotprohibitedbysection930(a). ` Weaffirmadistrictcourt'sdenialofamotionforacquittalunlesstheevidence,when"'viewedinthelightmostfavorabletothegovernment,couldnothavepersuadedanytrieroffactofthedefendant'sguiltbeyondareasonabledoubt.'"United P Statesv.Hernandez,218F.3d58,64(1stCir.2000),K(quoting  UnitedStatesv.Paradis,802F.2d553,559(1stCir.1986))KL,LM%  MKKcert.  p denied531U.S.1103(2001)J(quotingUnitedStatesv.Paradis,802F.2d  p 553,559(1stCir.1986))J.Wefindthattherewassufficient   evidenceinthiscaseforajurytohavefoundthatMurrayviolatedthestatutebeyondareasonabledoubt.EveniftheappellantbelievedthathewasnotviolatingtheprohibitionagainstpossessingdangerousweaponsinafederalbuildingwhenheenteredthelobbyoftheMargaretChaseSmithFederalBuilding,hewasclearlyandimmediatelyinformedofthepolicybythesecuritypersonnelwhenheshowedthemthepistol.Ajurycouldreasonablyconcludethathisconductfromthatpointforwardwasaknowingpossessionofadangerousweaponinafederalbuilding.Giventhat +'2 therewasalegitimatequestionforthejuryatleastonthispoint,weneednotconsiderwhetherthejurycouldreasonablyhavefoundthatMurrayviolatedthestatutesimplybybringingthepistolintothelobby,beforehewasinformedofthepolicyagainstitaconclusionarguablysupportedbecauseofthefrequencywithwhichhevisitedthebuildingandhadpreviouslyencounteredthenoticesannouncingtheprohibition.Ajudgmentofacquittalwasthusproperlydeniedandthequestionwascorrectlysubmittedtothejury.Affirmed.
