Thursday, November 7, 2013

Effective December 1, 2013, the appellate filing fee — referred to as the "docketing fee" in the Miscellaneous Fee Schedule — is increasing from $450 to $500. The $5 filing fee for a notice of appeal under 28 U.S.C. § 1917 will remain the same. So, upon filing a notice of appeal in the district court on or after December 1, 2013, appellants will be required to pay the clerk of the district court a combined fee of $505. Upon filing a petition for review of an agency order or a petition for writ of mandamus in the court of appeals, petitioners will be required to pay a fee of $500 to the circuit clerk.

Other changes to the Miscellaneous Fee Schedule will also take effect on December 1, 2013. For a copy of the revised fee schedule, click here. Deletions are marked in strike-out print; changes are marked in red.
